Your Photographer is for Life, Not just Your Wedding….

This morning was the usual kind of morning in the Ooba-Fish household,  work chaos, cereal wars, toddler tantrums over which foot to put each welly on and whether he really needed to take two duckies and a giraffe to the child minder. Once everyone had left,  I sat down for breakfast, in total silence. As I munched my (Slimming World Syn Free just in case my group leader is reading this) Full English, I pondered on the next few weddings coming up. One in particular being Alex and Lucinda in March.

Now I met Lucinda and Alex after Lucinda had asked for recommendations for wedding photographers on a networking facebook group, Local Business Network, of which we are both members. I was overwhelmed by the amount of recommendations I received and we duly spoke on the phone, got on like a house on fire and arranged to meet to discuss their wedding. I knew Lucinda was very heavily pregnant, so I popped my camera in my bag. After we had done all the serious stuff, I asked if they wanted an informal bump picture.lucinda07

Later, I found out that Nicky from The Chamomile Rooms had gifted them a newborn shoot with myself. How is that for a lucky coincidence?! When I originally spoke to Nicky about this extremely generous gift for her Reflexology and Nurture 4 Life clients she said,

“We like to give our lovely mums-to-be and new mums a real treat to celebrate the arrival of their little bundle of joy and there is no better way of doing this than a special family photo shoot with the amazing Oobaloos Photography.”

I was very happy that one of these vouchers she had purchased from me was for little Flo!

When Flo was ready for her shoot a month or so later, I knew that Lucinda had researched my style, knew how I loved moody and emotive photography and let me just run with it. That was music to my ears. The picture that was our joint favourite went on to be one of my most popular images ever, being featured in ‘Inspire Photography Magazine‘ in their Top 10 for Black and White Photography, Fine Art photography guru Amber Privizzini’s blog, and several community pages, winning top spot. I have to say that this image was a turning point for me and my work, I knew what I wanted to do, but didn’t know if clients would like it. Now I had my own justification.

Just last week, I met up with Lucinda and Alex again for their engagement shoot at their wedding venue, Ellenborough Park, and I was delighted that they bought Flo! It was her 6 month birthday and it was magical to include her in this shoot.

Watch this space….for the next chapter in Lucinda and Alex’s life that I am super excited to be a part of with my trusty camera.

So what is my point? Well I will get to it in my usual long winded way! In the past few years I have seen clients through from Bump, to Newborn, then First Birthday shoots. This week I was HONOURED to have been let in the secret of one of my wedding couples happy pregnancy news….no I’m not telling YOU who yet!!

Two days ago, another lovely lady messaged me with happy newsand an excitement for me to capture it for her.

My point…..when you meet with your wedding photographer, consider this….do I like them enough to let them share my life. To chronicle every milestone and happy moment, knowing they are just as excited to be there. I cannot wait for all my wedding couples to contact me again, whether its for babies, family events, or just to celebrate an anniversary with a shoot.

I know that Lucinda and Alex’s wedding will not be the last time I ever see them, and that makes my heart very happy.

Ooba~Love to you from me,

Sheryl

Oobaloos Meets Charlotte Elizabeth Bespoke Floristy

new 7

A few weeks ago I met up with Charlotte so that we could talk about her work as part of my featured wedding supplier blogs. She had come very highly recommended and after searching through her social media and website I thought that yes, Charlotte would indeed be a great fit for Oobaloos Wedding Photography. So I drove out one rainy dark afternoon in January to The Royal, in Charlton Kings, where, incidentally , they do the most glorious loaded hot chocolate! Fresh whipped cream, marshmallow, sprinkles and divine hot chocolate. Anyway, I digress!!

I had seen that Charlotte had run a very successful competition on her Facebook page on the run up to Christmas, for Cheltenham’s prettiest door. The winner received the most festive, beautiful wreath. Keep an eye on her page!!

I asked Charlotte what piqued her interest in floristry.new 4

“My Grandma” she said.

“I loved her Cotswolds garden and she had this pathway of lavender leading up to the front door.  She had a beautiful cottage garden and I spent many happy hours playing outside as a child while she tended to her flowers there.”

I am always intrigued as to how a florist would make up a bouquet for herself. Charlotte would have big blowsy David Austin roses, they are quintessentially English! With Ranunculous (I had to get her to spell that one), anemones, lots of foliage in whites and greens. With a shot of crimson.

Charlotte is the resident florist of 131 The Promenade,  creating her own flair of sophisticated, country style, hand tied arrangements for 131 and other venues within The Lucky Onion group including The Tavern and No 38 The Park. I popped into 131 The Promenade last week to take some pictures of the fresh flowers as they came in.

This is an extremely prestigious contract as 131 The Promenade is making waves all over the world, with a recent rave review in The New York Times. Read it here!!

Finally, since I am a Wedding Photographer, I wanted to know what makes a Charlotte Elizabeth wedding bouquet unique.

“Keep it personal, and how it would be seen in nature”

Simple, hand tied, rustic is the name of the game here, with delicate ribbon, vintage lace or charms if you wish to bring in personal items from family heirlooms to be with you on your wedding day. Classy and elegant.

Charlotte is now gearing up for Valentines Day and Mothers Day and will be creating heart shaped wreaths! I can’t wait to see them! I will share them over to my own Facebook page so keep an eye out!!

Oobaloos Wedding Photography meets OMmaZing Chocolates

ommazing-1

On a bright but icy cold morning, I drove out in the gorgeous Cotswold countryside to meet with Daniella Warner of OMmaZing Chocolates.  I met Daniella last year at a networking event and had a taste of her marvellous delights!! I am not even a chocolate eater but a well made truffle or artisan dark chocolate will still make me melt!

So as Daniella made me a hot mug of coffee and gently pushed over some dark chocolate truffles. Of course I mumbled the obligatory “oh I shouldn’t, I’m on a diet” then popped one straight in my mouth.

Heaven!! Lightly dusted coating with a melt in the mouth middle…..I popped in another one.  As I did this, Daniella mentioned ‘healthy eating’. What’s that? I’ve just shoved 3 truffles in my mouth!

‘Raw Energy Balls’ she said!! Daniella comes from a Holistic and Therapeutic background, hence the ‘OM’ in OMmaZing Chocolates, and has designed  raw organic energy balls, which taste good and deliver powerful benefits for health and wellness. They are organic, dairy free, sugar free, vegetarian & vegan and each one will deliver a powerful nutritional punch…ideal for a quick healthy treat. Ideal for diabetics too! Raw chocolate bars with a choice of mixed dried fruit, nuts and seeds, such as pistachios, hazelnuts, brazil nuts, walnuts, almonds, cranberries, cherries, apricots and spices.  This is what is offered in this range:

Raw Walnut & Cashew Energy Balls
Raw Cacao Ginger Energy Balls
Raw Coconut & Hot Spicy Energy Balls
Raw Chocolate Brownie Balls
Raw Marzipan balls covered in raw chocolate or dark chocolate.

Interesting to know! Delicious? You bet they are!!

ommazing-5

Daniella is currently getting her game head on for Valentines day and is looking forward to a flurry of orders after a nice break from Christmas! Look at these heart shaped, pure dark chocolates! Packaged in black and gold box with a green raffia bow this is the ultimate decadence in Artisan Chocolate gifts for a loved one!

ommazing-2 ommazing-7 ommazing-10 ommazing-12

OMmaZing Chocolates new venture for this year is going to be Wedding Favours!! ChocoPops that can be initialled, wrapped in cellophane and tied in a ribbon with the colour of your choice to match your theme. At £1.50 per ChocoPop, this is a steal!!

Daniella is a trained Artisan Chocolatier. If you are interested in meeting with her to discuss your wedding or gift needs, be prepared for a lovely cuppa and chat and a tasting where she will discuss with you exactly how to design a bespoke chocolate favour JUST FOR YOU!!

ommazing-8 ommazing-9

I asked Daniella how she got into this delicious business……she went along on a course to support a friend! I just love how these things happen. When you fall into things like this I firmly believe in fate. The feedback she got from friends and family was that these should be made available to the public.

Her biggest supporter is her husband…although she says that’s only if he can stop eating them long enough! His favourite is her signature Salted Caramel Cup!! Her other biggest business supporter has been Sali Green who is well known in Cheltenham for her sunny and helpful nature. She runs the Promotional directory, Iwork4u Glos. Where you will also find myself!!

ommazing-11

So brides? What are you waiting for? Get super dooper brownie (or truffle) points with your guests for being bang on style with OMmaZing Chocolates. Daniella has a passion for excellence and lovingly creates exquisite handmade chocolates, made to order, exclusively for you.

I hope you have enjoyed this first instalment in ‘My OobaFave Wedding Suppliers’. Next week I will introduce you to Charlotte Elizabeth Bespoke Floristry for this years top tips for blooms in season and colours to rock 2016.

Twinkly Christmas Wedding in Manor House Hotel

I was first introduced to the future Mrs Richards via a mutual friend as we all have kiddies the same age. I already knew Sarah as a scatty, lovely, bubbly lady so  I was delighted to be asked to meet with her and Marc to discuss their wedding photography. Having clicked with them both, I came away knowing we were going to have a fantastic day together!!

A few months later we all visited their venue, The Manor House Hotel in Moreton-In-Marsh to do their engagement shoot and to speak with their wedding planner at the hotel.

Its just so happened that they had a wedding fayre that day so I saw it all set up.It was gorgeous, everything you could expect from a Cotswolds hotel…roaring fireplaces, log beams, pretty cakes etc etc. You get the picture!

We had lovely autumnal sunshine for their engagement shoot and it was a wonderful way to really get to know Sarah and Marc as a couple, see how they interact and what made them feel comfortable in front of my lens. We had a fabulous time.

When wedding day rolled round 3 days after Christmas, I was delighted to be out working. I knew several of the guests at the wedding and was looking forward to shooting all day. The weather gods smiled on us and we had some beautiful crisp, cold sunshine. Perfect!! I was pleased to be working alongside the delightful Amy Hickey waving her make-up Richards-28artistry  magic wand on the bride and mother of the bride! Having worked several weddings and styles shoots with Amy, we enjoy an easy banter!

Richards-70Richards-44Richards-100Richards-36

I love feeling part of the girly gang at the bridal prep stage….the nerves, excitement, make up and shoes flying everywhere. I am part spectator and contributor and enjoy every second.

So…..to the big moment! Sarah, the blushing bride walked down the aisle in a stunning lace and beaded Maggie Sottero dress to an emotional groom. Jack, their nearly 3 year old wanted to be a part of their ceremony, and surrounded by friends and family, he looked just perfect there, also bringing the rings up to his mum and dad at the right time. What a little gentleman!

Richards-169Richards-129Richards-144Richards-157Richards-163Richards-187Richards-245Richards-254Richards-268

After the newly married couple walked back down the aisle they enjoyed some champagne and welcomed their guests until I whisked them away for their couples photos, allowing them some time to talk to each other whilst I got set up. If I can give any advice to the bride and groom on their big day, it is to take some time to talk to each other. You get so swept away with welcoming guests, that its very easy to not speak to each other for most of the day. I know all of my couples have welcomed this break  with me for 30 odd minutes to relax and chat and grab a whole glass of bubbly.

Richards-296 Richards-283Richards-281Richards-294Richards-321Richards-331Richards-328Richards-325

Once Sarah and Marc were happy that they had had some time out we invited all family and friend out to join in the photo fun. We worked swiftly and smoothly as it was on the nippy side!!

Richards-370Richards-344   Richards-333Richards-350

The wedding breakfast was filled with laughter, wine, speeches, power point displays and emotional tears…. the perfect celebration!

Richards-439 Richards-451 Richards-465 Richards-520  Richards-564 Richards-591Richards-568Richards-539

I have to say, that the atmosphere at Sarah and Marc Richards wedding day was powerful. The toast made to absent friends was poignant and there was a closeness and love in the air that captivated everybody.

I wish you guys all the luck and love in the world!! and thank you for letting me be a part of your special day. I hop[e you enjoy ‘your story’.
