Cotswolds Wedding Venues – My Top 5!

Congratulations on your engagement! If you are looking for a Cotswolds wedding venue or Cotswolds wedding photographer, I can totally help you out. Searching for the perfect wedding venue can be tricky but I am going to take the stress away by giving you the rundown of my top five wedding venues in the Cotswolds!

A little bit about me…

I’m an ex-Londoner who fell in love with The Cotswolds followed by my Soul Mate and married him because I believe in love. I am a Mummy to a gorgeous 6-year-old boy and 3 furbabies.

Why wedding photography?

Weddings excite me! I arrive with my brides in the morning ready to have a blinding day! Being a bubbly person with a quick laugh and a natural ability to make people feel at ease, I am able to create effortless magical images. I love to watch how my couples interact with each other meaning that I can shoot their wedding accordingly. So that being said, no two weddings that I photograph will ever look the same. The longer I have been in this industry, the more I have come to realise that ‘like goes to like’. I am a tattooed wife of a rock guitarist and daughter of a rock drummer and extremely proud to be known as a passionate soul that takes life with both hands and shakes it hard with grit and determination!

How I became a wedding photographer in the Cotswolds…

I always had a passion for art from a young age and with that creative flow came to a career in Performing Arts. As I grew older my creativity naturally swayed over to imagery and now I find myself happier behind the lens than I ever was in front.  I have always marched to the beat of my own drum. It took me until I was 30 to find a career I was totally passionate about and how to harness my personality into my work to create dynamic, emotional and fun portraiture.

Why I am a good person to give you wedding venue advice…

As a wedding photographer, I have the unique position of visiting a wedding venue as a guest, a supplier and a work colleague. Wedding photographers are invited to be a large part of the wedding day by the Bride and Groom and whilst we are there to work, we are also looked after as a guest by the venue. Wedding photographers get to see all the behind-the-scenes organisation. We work closely with the wedding venue, their event co-coordinators and caterers, everyone has their role to play and communication is key.

The majority of wedding suppliers are involved in sections of either preparations or the actual day, such as cake makers, florists, makeup and hair artists etc. As photographers, we are with our couples for 8-10 hours of their special day, mingling with their guests and we see everything as a guest would. We also see all the ‘Back of House’ organisation and work closely with the venue, their co-coordinators and caterers. Everyone has their role to play and communication is key. The photographer wouldn’t want to hold up food service by the official group photos running late and we also work together if anything needs tweaking due to inclement weather.

Now for the Cotswold Wedding Venues!

There are loads of wedding venues in the Cotswolds including castles, hotels, stately homes, country manors and wedding barns, you can even get married at a vineyard! I am positive that you and your fiancé will fall in love with one of these Cotswold Wedding Venues, so without further ado, grab a cuppa or a glass of vino and browse my favourite Cotswold Wedding Venues below.

My top Cotswold Wedding Venues in no particular order:

Stone Barn

Matara

Oxleaze

Slaughters

Kingscote

Clicking the links in each section which will take you to weddings I have photographed at that wedding venue.

P.S. Don’t forget to enjoy your wedding planning!

Stone Barn Wedding Venue

Upper Windrush, Cheltenham wedding Venue

I have a real soft spot for Stone Barn, a historic wedding venue in the Cotswolds. This venue is part of the Cripps and Co. wedding venue group. Stone Barn has a sister wedding venue called Cripps Barn, also in the Cotswolds and rather beautiful! Stone Barn has a wooden shelter in the Stone Barn grounds, which provides an idyllic spot for outdoor ceremonies in the summer, with sweeping views over the glorious Cotswold countryside.

I am a BIG fan of anywhere with twinkly lights! From their gallery, the confetti runs under the twinkly tin roof of the barn! The lower part of the barn opens into a bright and airy conservatory style space which is a nice contrast. In the summer months, all of the doors are open so it feels like you are outside, nestled in the rolling Cotswold Hills.

I photographed a Cotswold wedding here where the Bride and Groom said:
“As soon as we came to this particular barn (and we had been to a lot) we knew instantly it was the venue for us. It was everything we ever could wish for. A rustic barn with a mixture of stone walls and corrugated iron, surrounded by green fields as far as the eye could see, which gave an amazing feeling of privacy and intimacy. Stone Barn depicts the picturesque Cotswolds and we fell in love.”

The Matara Centre Wedding Venue

Tetbury Wedding Venue

This is a completely unique venue set in twenty-eight acres of beautiful grounds. The Matara Centre offers a relaxed and serene environment for your special day. Asian inspired, this exclusive-use venue is licensed to host both indoor and outdoor wedding ceremonies, which makes it weatherproof. Matara is intimate enough for twenty-five guests and grand enough to comfortably host up to two hundred guests. There is also accommodation for up to twenty-eight of your wedding guests.

One of my couple’s said this about the Matara wedding venue:
“Absolutely beautiful and every single member of staff is brilliant. Especially our wedding coordinator Olivia, nothing was too much for them.”
Alison & Leon

Whenever I have had any contact with Matara, whether it’s about a shoot, a wedding, or their ‘Best of Matara’ awards, every single person has been helpful, polite and gone out of their way to make sure everything runs smoothly for the Bride and Groom and myself. The food has been outstanding and all the guest say how well looked after they’ve been. The upkeep of their grounds is flawless and its an absolute MUST for any couple wanting a unique wedding experience. The Matara has a  cloistered courtyard, the Hilarium Dome and a tree planted and dedicated to every couple married there. What a lovely touch!

Oxleaze Barn Wedding Venue
Lechlade Wedding Venue

I shot my first wedding at Oxleaze this April and I think I fell in love, I cannot wait to go back there. Oxleaze farm comprises of The Barn and The Milling Barn. The beautifully restored barns are set on an organic family-run farm in the heart of the picturesque Cotswolds. Oxleaze Farm is nestled between quintessential English villages just one and a half hours from London. The wedding barns feature original stonework, exposed wooden beams and beautiful gardens. There is a three-bed cottage on-site for you or your guests to enjoy during your wedding day. The grounds at Oxleaze Farm provide great photo opportunities are covered in wildflowers and friendly livestock. They have a very cool 3D tour on their website so you can take a look around before you book your wedding viewing!

Kingscote Barn

Tetbury Wedding Venue

Kingscote Barn is a17th Century stone barn set in the beautiful countryside of the Cotswolds. The barn is surrounded by breathtaking scenery and lots of rural charm. It has an impressive main barn for your wedding celebrations, with a vaulted ceiling and a viewing gallery. The Kingscote Barn wedding team are incredibly helpful and run flawless wedding days with exceptional food and service. Kingscote Barn is a beautiful space where you can truly make it your own. The cornfields provide the perfect backdrop for those sunset couples portraits which I take during the ‘golden hour.’

I shot a Bride and groom’s wedding at this Cotswold Wedding Venue and this is what they thought:

“It was a tough choice because we have SO many gorgeous venues around the Cotswolds area. We were pretty certain we wanted to get married in a barn. We quickly ruled out having a ceremony elsewhere, as we wanted our guest to fully relax in one setting, and limit the chances of being caught in the British weather!  Having visited a few other styles of venues just to make sure, and for us, the barns felt more us. Both of us fell in love with Kingscote, the atmosphere, the decor and the staff were right up our street!”

The Slaughters Country Inn

Gloucestershire Wedding Venue

This Cotswolds wedding venue offers a relaxed ambience in a quintessentially British country inn. If you are searching for a traditional wedding venue in the Cotswolds, The Slaughters Country Inn could be the perfect fit. It is located in the heart of one of the prettiest villages in England and nestled on the banks of the River Eye. Its idyllic location means that there are loads of lovely photo spots including a little wooden bridge over the stream. If you are looking for something even grander you could try their sister wedding venue Slaughters Manor over the stream.

Greenery: Pantone colour of the year

Blog originally published in The Cheltonian Magazine, March edition.

Replacing last year’s delicate shades, Serenity and Rose Quartz – Greenery has been officially selected as Pantone’s 2017 colour of the year. According to Pantone, this zesty yellow-green colour symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another, and is also symbolic of new beginnings. Greenery is a fresh shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew.  It is also illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors. The fortifying attributes of Greenery signals consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate.

Greenery is nature’s neutral. The more submerged people are into modern life, the greater their innate craving is to immerse themselves in the physical beauty and inherent unity of the natural world. This shift is reflected by the proliferation of all things expressive of Greenery in daily lives such as urban planning, architecture, lifestyle and global design choices. Greenery is also emblematic of the pursuit of personal passions and vitality.

With all honestly, when I found out that this year was ‘Greenery’, my heart sank. As a photographer, I fight green constantly. In full sun, it can appear as neon in images. In winter, it is minty and sometimes you hit it at a midpoint and it looks yellow. Knowing where colour casts will be thrown onto skin and onto white and pale dresses is just one part of my job – and that only comes from experience. When it comes to weddings, there are infinite ways to include more greenery and, though it might seem a bold colour, it can actually be treated as a neutral. Whether you use it as an underlying neutral in your wedding décor, or prefer to use it as a vibrant accent, you can make it work.

Take your wedding reception to new heights by hanging décor from the ceilings and rafters. Suspended wedding installations add some serious wow factor to your reception, but instead of flowers, try fresh greenery — pretty garlands, delicate vines, and leafy branches. I have seen some beautiful, autumnal, floral chandeliers. I can only imagine what a good floral designer could do with summer greeneries.  Their ability to transform a wedding reception space is truly breath-taking. This new take on the hanging classic is just as fresh, albeit a little greener. Decorating with leaves, vines and other greenery is not only unique and unexpected but it’s way more wedding budget friendly – since greens tend to be much more affordable than fresh flowers.

Hanging greenery overhead is also a great way to make your reception space feel larger — the leafy decorations will draw guests’ eyes upward, making the ceilings seem taller and the room to feel more spacious. Also, a hanging greenery installation is a great way to create a focal point since the piece is likely to be the first thing that guests see once they set foot inside the reception. Not to mention the stunning way that these installations really seem to bring the outdoors in.

Looking to liven up your hotel ballroom with a vineyard feel? Suspend a slew of vines or branches above your dinner tables and it will infuse the room with nature.

Bonus: You’ll also save space on your tables by hanging the decorations overhead — something to seriously consider if you’re serving a family-style wedding menu or if you’re just running out of reception-table real estate.

Oobaloos Wedding Photography meets OMmaZing Chocolates

ommazing-1

On a bright but icy cold morning, I drove out in the gorgeous Cotswold countryside to meet with Daniella Warner of OMmaZing Chocolates.  I met Daniella last year at a networking event and had a taste of her marvellous delights!! I am not even a chocolate eater but a well made truffle or artisan dark chocolate will still make me melt!

So as Daniella made me a hot mug of coffee and gently pushed over some dark chocolate truffles. Of course I mumbled the obligatory “oh I shouldn’t, I’m on a diet” then popped one straight in my mouth.

Heaven!! Lightly dusted coating with a melt in the mouth middle…..I popped in another one.  As I did this, Daniella mentioned ‘healthy eating’. What’s that? I’ve just shoved 3 truffles in my mouth!

‘Raw Energy Balls’ she said!! Daniella comes from a Holistic and Therapeutic background, hence the ‘OM’ in OMmaZing Chocolates, and has designed  raw organic energy balls, which taste good and deliver powerful benefits for health and wellness. They are organic, dairy free, sugar free, vegetarian & vegan and each one will deliver a powerful nutritional punch…ideal for a quick healthy treat. Ideal for diabetics too! Raw chocolate bars with a choice of mixed dried fruit, nuts and seeds, such as pistachios, hazelnuts, brazil nuts, walnuts, almonds, cranberries, cherries, apricots and spices.  This is what is offered in this range:

Raw Walnut & Cashew Energy Balls
Raw Cacao Ginger Energy Balls
Raw Coconut & Hot Spicy Energy Balls
Raw Chocolate Brownie Balls
Raw Marzipan balls covered in raw chocolate or dark chocolate.

Interesting to know! Delicious? You bet they are!!

ommazing-5

Daniella is currently getting her game head on for Valentines day and is looking forward to a flurry of orders after a nice break from Christmas! Look at these heart shaped, pure dark chocolates! Packaged in black and gold box with a green raffia bow this is the ultimate decadence in Artisan Chocolate gifts for a loved one!

ommazing-2 ommazing-7 ommazing-10 ommazing-12

OMmaZing Chocolates new venture for this year is going to be Wedding Favours!! ChocoPops that can be initialled, wrapped in cellophane and tied in a ribbon with the colour of your choice to match your theme. At £1.50 per ChocoPop, this is a steal!!

Daniella is a trained Artisan Chocolatier. If you are interested in meeting with her to discuss your wedding or gift needs, be prepared for a lovely cuppa and chat and a tasting where she will discuss with you exactly how to design a bespoke chocolate favour JUST FOR YOU!!

ommazing-8 ommazing-9

I asked Daniella how she got into this delicious business……she went along on a course to support a friend! I just love how these things happen. When you fall into things like this I firmly believe in fate. The feedback she got from friends and family was that these should be made available to the public.

Her biggest supporter is her husband…although she says that’s only if he can stop eating them long enough! His favourite is her signature Salted Caramel Cup!! Her other biggest business supporter has been Sali Green who is well known in Cheltenham for her sunny and helpful nature. She runs the Promotional directory, Iwork4u Glos. Where you will also find myself!!

ommazing-11

So brides? What are you waiting for? Get super dooper brownie (or truffle) points with your guests for being bang on style with OMmaZing Chocolates. Daniella has a passion for excellence and lovingly creates exquisite handmade chocolates, made to order, exclusively for you.

I hope you have enjoyed this first instalment in ‘My OobaFave Wedding Suppliers’. Next week I will introduce you to Charlotte Elizabeth Bespoke Floristry for this years top tips for blooms in season and colours to rock 2016.
