Secret styled Barn shoot featured in The English Wedding Blog

Our secret styled shoot featured in The English Wedding Blog

Please excuse my tardiness in sharing this blog link. I had a little holiday and it is now fully flung wedding season. But I have got to it now and I assure you it is worth the wait!!

Hollie and I sat down in the winter and brain stormed a magical barn wedding shoot at Priors Tithe Barn, Glos. From that moment I knew we would work well together. I had lots of contacts that I was itching to work with and Hollie had the vision. We were soon joined by our model Kristi from Poppy’s Events, whom, a met a few years back when we both modelled in a Wedding Show. Once Charlotte Elizabeth Floristry joined our team we were flying! We all then met with Charlotte from Lauren Charlotte Bridal to find the perfect dress. Sarie Joynes provided the jewellery that complemented our look perfectly.

I called upon my buddy Amy Hickey for make up, as I flipping love working with her, she’s a hoot!! The full look was topped off by Alice from Ella Hair.

Cakes by KIT supplied an absolute beaut!

You can see the entire shoot being filmed by Gill at Rare Events media

Oobaloos Wedding Photography Featured In The English Wedding Blog

Now you may remember I wrote a blog a few months back called

‘Your photographer is for life, not just your wedding’

featuring Lucinda, Alex and little Flo.

I have recorded the milestones for this lovely little family for a while now, and I think it is safe to say that the feeling is mutual for wanting to continue this for many years to come. When I wrote that blog I was very excited to be shooting their upcoming wedding at Ellenborough Park, Cheltenham.  Did we think that one of the biggest blogs in the country would pick it for publication? Nope! Well….here it is! In awe again of all the work that went on behind the scenes of this wedding to make it Picture Perfect.

Read the feature here on The English Wedding Blog!

Special mention has to go to my lovely friend Amy Hickey who really does make every bride look and feel like a princess in their bridal make up. Teamed with Cat at Yoshi Hair, they made the bridal preparation experience complete….along with some prosecco!!

Oobaloos Wedding Photography Meets Longlevens Flowers

The first time you smell honeysuckle on the cusp of summer or catch the scent of a fireplace as autumn transitions into winter, it whisks you down memory lane, transporting you to another time and place. Similarly, when you reach for that special ‘date night’ perfume, it takes you right back to the first day you wore it. Scent and memory are inextricably linked and flowers have their own powerful way to remind you of a certain time in your life. After the sweet, fleeting moments of your wedding day have passed you by, your signature flowers are one of the few keepsakes you can use to travel back in time, time and time again.stuart-369

I met with Amanda Cook of Longlevens Flowers and we discussed exactly this! Amanda informed me that because the flowers often have to travel hundreds of miles to reach the shops, their toughness has also been valued more than their fragrance. As a result, the scent of roses has suffered, and become something of an afterthought.

Wild roses could not survive without this scent, as it attracts bees to pollinate its flower. But over the years, roses, particularly those for the cut flower market, have mostly been bred for their appearance – and many have lost their scent.

So how can we incorporate a scent into your bouquet that will instantly transport you back to your wedding day? Herbs are fantastic; rosemary brings in a beautifully woody scent, also populus eucalyptus and succulents.

Amanda had just made up this gorgeous bouquet when I arrived for her bride. She said the fashion at the moment is for HUGE bouquets. The type that look as though the bride has wandered through a meadow on her way to the church and pulled a ribbon from her hair to tie them. They aren’t symmetrical, they aren’t particularly arranged, they are wild, bohemian and gorgeous.longlevens flowers-4

Featured here is the Sweet avalanche rose with beautiful soft pink petals with a subtle hint of green on the outer petals, it’s a very popular flower to use in wedding designs. And it’s available all year round. We also have asparagus fern, olive and berry and the ever popular pale pastels and greens with lime green vibernum.longlevens flowers-10

As I chatted with Amanda about her work, her face lit up. I can see when a lady is passionate about her work as she mirrors me. The energy and enthusiasm in the room was contagious.longlevens flowers-6

Amanda prides herself on sourcing the very best flowers from Dutch auctions where they are picked and delivered to her within 48 hours preserving freshness and quality.  She covers all floral arrangements from traditional bouquets and baskets to exotic hand ties.

She and her assistant Abi will create bespoke arrangements covering all budgets.

All orders are carefully created, lovingly wrapped and look stunning before being delivered to Cheltenham, Gloucester, The Cotwolds and surrounding areas.

I asked Amanda if weddings are the only time she sees her brides. Apparently not! Grooms return for Valentines Day and Anniversaries to have a bouquet made up with ‘their’ flowers and always remark how the scent makes their beautiful wife go a bit wistful and gooey. So, husbands? Want to earn major brownie points? Talk to Amanda about recreating your wife’s bouquet.
