Oobaloos Wedding Photography Featured In The English Wedding Blog

Now you may remember I wrote a blog a few months back called

‘Your photographer is for life, not just your wedding’

featuring Lucinda, Alex and little Flo.

I have recorded the milestones for this lovely little family for a while now, and I think it is safe to say that the feeling is mutual for wanting to continue this for many years to come. When I wrote that blog I was very excited to be shooting their upcoming wedding at Ellenborough Park, Cheltenham.  Did we think that one of the biggest blogs in the country would pick it for publication? Nope! Well….here it is! In awe again of all the work that went on behind the scenes of this wedding to make it Picture Perfect.

Read the feature here on The English Wedding Blog!

Special mention has to go to my lovely friend Amy Hickey who really does make every bride look and feel like a princess in their bridal make up. Teamed with Cat at Yoshi Hair, they made the bridal preparation experience complete….along with some prosecco!!

Oobaloos Wedding Photography in The Cheltonian: March

This Month in The Cheltonian! Read the full magazine HERE!!

Breaking The Rules:

How to effortlessly combine all your favourite styles;

Adam and Maddy have the perfect blend of Hollywood elegance and glamour – a modernised town house charmed with rustic chic….and sequins!  Imagine that Audrey Hepburn was the bride, and her wedding stylist was Doris Day. Could this work? I will show you how!

Last month I opened the wedding season with Maddy and Adam. I had already spoken with Maddy about her ideas for dresses and hair styling last year and about the fact that the ceremony venue was at The Pittville Pumps Rooms – the beautiful, iconic building in our little Spa town. Of course, in my head I imagined a simple elegance, with a touch of sparkle. Then I found that the reception was to be at a marvellous small hotel in town, and dining was ‘family style’ with trestle tables and a buffet of various platters of food. First question –  do these styles match?

Well, who cares! Allow me to elucidate.

Time after time, I see brides getting bogged down with a ‘theme’. Remember, that it is YOUR wedding- no one elses. For, maybe, two years you have been pinning ideas, tearing pages from bridal magazines, visiting wedding fayres, collecting ideas for this, your perfect day.  I will say that again because the emphasis is important. YOUR perfect day.

What I adored about this particular wedding is how they mixed cool glamour of Maddy’s dress, hair and head piece, with the most marvellous fur boleros to create the ultimate chic and then also intertwined this with lots of soft, feminine Baby’s Breath – Gypsophilia.

Those delicate white flowers that seem to last an age and never fail to make a significant impact whether used in small dainty doses or huge frothy bundles. The bridesmaids were adorned in an elegant navy that complemented the groom perfectly.

The reception had a glorious, eclectic classy feel with the ‘clink clink’ of glasses, the chatter echoing throughout the various reception room and little ones nipping in and out of nooks and crannies.

For the ‘dinner’, three enormous trestle table and various benches were set out and the overall atmosphere was extremely friendly and sociable.

Now…..do you really need to have the ceremony and reception and party all on the same day?

Absolutely not!

Maddy and Adam had a late ceremony, 3pm, dinner at 6pm, relaxed drinks over a long sociable dinner, card games, general good-natured banter and then everybody happily retired to bed in a relaxed and satisfied nature.

The next evening was to be the real party time. All were  feeling refreshed and ready to dance the night away. In continuing the themes of the previous day, the food room was a  buffet style. The tables were adorned with pink sequined table runners, pink macaroons, the ever popular an flexible Baby’s Breath and some pretty twinkle lights. In the main hall of the barn were the most glorious Light Letters supported by pink uplighting around the room. The bar was set up with beers in ice caskets and bottles of fizz strategically placed to finally enhance the feel of just celebration.

So, what is my point?

Well, you are spending all your time (and none of us live forever,) planning your perfect day…. So, have it your way! Rules are made to be broken. Putting your own spin on an all-time favourite is a sure-fire way to have all your guests chattering about your day for years to come. Who knows what they themselves will come up with after seeing and enjoying your very personal and imaginative trials and tribulations? The world s very much their oyster – or lobster – or any delicious tasty take they can envisage, with a little help from you.

So are you an Audrey or a Doris? Who cares! Channel them both in and see what you can achieve. After all, life is all about having fun before you run out of time. So give it all and, who knows – you may start a trend that will go viral – with your name on it!

Your Photographer is for Life, Not just Your Wedding….

This morning was the usual kind of morning in the Ooba-Fish household,  work chaos, cereal wars, toddler tantrums over which foot to put each welly on and whether he really needed to take two duckies and a giraffe to the child minder. Once everyone had left,  I sat down for breakfast, in total silence. As I munched my (Slimming World Syn Free just in case my group leader is reading this) Full English, I pondered on the next few weddings coming up. One in particular being Alex and Lucinda in March.

Now I met Lucinda and Alex after Lucinda had asked for recommendations for wedding photographers on a networking facebook group, Local Business Network, of which we are both members. I was overwhelmed by the amount of recommendations I received and we duly spoke on the phone, got on like a house on fire and arranged to meet to discuss their wedding. I knew Lucinda was very heavily pregnant, so I popped my camera in my bag. After we had done all the serious stuff, I asked if they wanted an informal bump picture.lucinda07

Later, I found out that Nicky from The Chamomile Rooms had gifted them a newborn shoot with myself. How is that for a lucky coincidence?! When I originally spoke to Nicky about this extremely generous gift for her Reflexology and Nurture 4 Life clients she said,

“We like to give our lovely mums-to-be and new mums a real treat to celebrate the arrival of their little bundle of joy and there is no better way of doing this than a special family photo shoot with the amazing Oobaloos Photography.”

I was very happy that one of these vouchers she had purchased from me was for little Flo!

When Flo was ready for her shoot a month or so later, I knew that Lucinda had researched my style, knew how I loved moody and emotive photography and let me just run with it. That was music to my ears. The picture that was our joint favourite went on to be one of my most popular images ever, being featured in ‘Inspire Photography Magazine‘ in their Top 10 for Black and White Photography, Fine Art photography guru Amber Privizzini’s blog, and several community pages, winning top spot. I have to say that this image was a turning point for me and my work, I knew what I wanted to do, but didn’t know if clients would like it. Now I had my own justification.

Just last week, I met up with Lucinda and Alex again for their engagement shoot at their wedding venue, Ellenborough Park, and I was delighted that they bought Flo! It was her 6 month birthday and it was magical to include her in this shoot.

Watch this space….for the next chapter in Lucinda and Alex’s life that I am super excited to be a part of with my trusty camera.

So what is my point? Well I will get to it in my usual long winded way! In the past few years I have seen clients through from Bump, to Newborn, then First Birthday shoots. This week I was HONOURED to have been let in the secret of one of my wedding couples happy pregnancy news….no I’m not telling YOU who yet!!

Two days ago, another lovely lady messaged me with happy newsand an excitement for me to capture it for her.

My point…..when you meet with your wedding photographer, consider this….do I like them enough to let them share my life. To chronicle every milestone and happy moment, knowing they are just as excited to be there. I cannot wait for all my wedding couples to contact me again, whether its for babies, family events, or just to celebrate an anniversary with a shoot.

I know that Lucinda and Alex’s wedding will not be the last time I ever see them, and that makes my heart very happy.

Ooba~Love to you from me,

Sheryl
