The Mill Barns, Alveley; The Shepherd Shindig

Sheryl, you were amazing all the way through. From meeting up with us for a pre-wedding shoot, through making sure we got all the right pictures on the day, and then sending some beautiful pictures to us to enjoy afterwards. You managed to make 2 very awkward souls feel much more comfortable in front of the camera, and we are really grateful for that. We are looking forward to you capturing many more of our special moments in the future.

My mom had been to a colleagues wedding that Sheryl was the photographer at and she sent me the details. We knew we had to have Sheryl the moment we saw her website and pictures. John and I were in agreement that her pictures captured everything we wanted and she would be a perfect fit for our wedding.

We could not have been more right about our decision, one of my favourite memories from our wedding day is the time we spent with Sheryl taking pictures. It was fun, relaxed and the pictures speak for themselves about how incredible she is!

Ceremony St Peter’s Church Astley

Reception – The Mill Barns Alveley

Jo: I grew up just down the road from this church and it was associated with my primary school, so it has lots of memories for me. It was also where my parents were married and I was christened! On top of all that’s its beautiful and was the only place I’ve pictured getting married in since I was little – John was on board from the first time he saw it too!

We chose to have our reception at Mill Barns as it was clearly a stunning venue, but also one that allowed us to take our own alcohol – and we had big plans for choosing our own fizz! Both of us have grown up travelling to France annually and wanted to incorporate that into our wedding day, so last year we went to Reims in the champagne region to choose our bubbles for the big day!

We had a good 19 months to plan the wedding. It was the perfect amount of time, allowing us to take our time with all the arrangements and thoroughly enjoy the build up.

How would you describe your wedding day in 3 words?

Far too short (John)

Perfect. Fun. Canwedoitagain? (Jo)

We met playing hockey at Sheffield University Medics Hockey Club, the specifics we are still arguing about, but it involved Zelda, an iPad, ice skating and possibly a dare in a pub!

We got engaged in the South Island of New Zealand, during a road trip in the summer of 2017. John pulled the car over into a small bay as the sun was setting and got down on one knee to ‘pop’ the question.

Who did hair and makeup?

Helena Sinclair – Hair! Absolute superb job with my hair, mother of the bride and 4 bridesmaids all requesting different styles!

Chloe Parasmo – Make-up. Smashed it with gorgeous make-up on everyone that did not budge all day/night.

My dress was by Essence of Australia, bought from the absolutely stunning The Bridal Boutique Warwickshire (Henley in Arden).

And the suit? And bridesmaids?

The suit was from Gabucci in Bath and the groomsmen were kitted out from Men’s Hire in Clifton Down, Bristol.

The bridesmaids had free reign to have their dresses from anywhere as they were all having different styles, it ranged from Jane Norman, Monsoon to independent dress shops in Worcester.

Colour scheme was navy, blush and hessian!

Floral wise, we had a lot of Gypsophila, with the occasional blush rose, all perfectly put together by the super talented Country Wild’s Jody Page.

We ate Mango and Brie parcels, Trio of Pork, Fruit Crumble with Turkey and stuffing Sandwiches as an evening snack!

3 tiers of delicious semi naked cake comprising of raspberry and white chocolate, chocolate Guinness and lemon drizzle by the wonderful Buttercream and Dreams.

Any special moments, mentions or highlights of the day?

Martha our beautiful pest of a pug being at the church and stealing the lime light in the pictures!

Using Jo’s late Grandfather’s Morris Minor 1000 which had been restored for the wedding, to travel around in on the day.
