“We knew from our first contact with Sheryl that she was the photographer for us. Her style of catching emotions and expressions rather than just bog standard traditional wedding photos was exactly what we wanted and the fact she is just lovely made our decision straight away!
We loved her creativity with our Christmas wedding, and the way she captured our twinkly light and candle flicker filled day means we have photos that are stunning and will bring back memories forever.
I cannot recommend her highly enough- don’t hesitate to book Oobaloos before your date gets booked up!”

What made you decide to get married where you did?
Paul took me there 7 months after getting together as a surprise for the first birthday we celebrated together. Whilst there, we said if we ever get married, it will be here, so it was! We did look at one other place to make sure but that just confirmed it was ‘our’ venue! It is 3 hours away from where we live but was special to us and is even more so now!
How long was your wedding planning process?
We got engaged in May 2017, booked the venue in September 2017 and I would say started booking the big details from there but then had a lull for a few months. So probably about 10 months in total of actual planning.
How would you describe your wedding day in 3 words?
Full of: love, happiness and candles!
How did you meet?
On Tinder!! We did discuss making up a more romantic story like he helped me when my car was broken down on the side of a busy road but hey, nothing wrong with Tinder, ha ha! Although Paul was the one and only person I ever met from it as a friend set up my profile one drunken evening! Paul, well…… he found the right one in the end!!
What was the proposal like?
Just beautiful and a huge shock to me! We were on holiday with our friends in Portugal. We were all going out for dinner and my hairdresser friend offered to do my hair for me, I didn’t think anything of it at all. We went to a lovely restaurant and had a really nice evening and then went to a cocktail bar overlooking the beach. Sat having my drink with the girls and all the children, I didn’t even notice two of the lads disappearing. Paul came and asked me to dance, which I refused (I don’t dance sober!!) but they all told me to stop being boring and dance. Paul led me to the other side of this bar and told me to look down, to the beach where the two guys had gone down and written, Will you marry me? in the sand! I literally couldn’t have been more surprised to turn to look at Paul and find him down on one knee! Then we all went back to the villa and celebrated with bubbles and music into the early hours. It was so special to be surround by people we love to share that moment that we will never forget!
How did you choose your photographer?
Lots of looking on the internet led me to Oobaloos! Living so far away, we couldn’t use recommendations from people we knew, so it was all about the photos! I only enquired with one other person, as soon as I saw Sheryl’s style I loved it. I showed her portfolio to Paul, who also thought it was great. Finally, I showed my bridesmaids Oobaloos and the other choice and they all picked her too! So we went ahead and booked there and then!
Who did hair and makeup?
The lovely Natalie Ricciardi for make up and Stacey Jade for hair. I booked them through the mega useful South West Bridal hair and make up, they have lots of self employed stylists and mua’s on their website, so you can look at all their portfolios on one website and then book through them. Made the whole process much easier for me. Both ladies were absolutely lovely and I was so pleased with their work on the day, especially as they worked through 8 people each single handedly!
Madeleine Gardner for Morilee
And the suit? And bridesmaids?
Suits were all hired or bought from The Vintage Suit Hire Company, who were a godsend after we had struggled to find full tweed suits for months and months!
Bridesmaids dresses were Coast and I absolutely loved them as soon as I saw them!
Theme or colour scheme?
Navy, plum and candle light. It was the Saturday before Christmas and we wanted to recognise that but not go over the top Christmas theme. So it was more ‘Winter’ in my head.
The brilliantly talented Rebel and the Rose for the bouquets and buttonholes and then, local to me and also ridiculously amazing, Wild Frost for the table centrepieces. They both got exactly what I had in my head into flowers that I was actually really sad to let go of!
What did you eat?
We had choices of Salmon Gravlax or Ham Hock Ballotine for starter, Chicken stuffed with wild mushrooms or Roast pork belly for mains and Clementine cake with dark chocolate sorbet or Chestnut parfait for dessert. It was delicious and impressively, tasted just the same en masse as it had on our tasting day, something I have been told often doesn’t happen!
And the wedding cake?
Lemon and poppy seed with elderflower buttercream on one tier and traditional fruit for the top layer! All made by one of our lovely family members and decorated with edible lace and more flowers from Rebel and the Rose!.
Any special moments, mentions or highlights of the day?
So many, it was absolutely magical and we loved every single second. My best friend arriving after one of the worst weeks of her life, to be by my side as my bridesmaid, travelling all the way there and back in one day was pretty amazing and emotional! Looking out of the window and seeing our carol singers and snow and realising it was really happening, Paul’s beautiful personalised vows, the look on the children’s faces when they saw Father Christmas in his ‘grotto’ and dancing the night away with our closest family and friends all served to give us a day we will treasure forever, making me emotional just thinking about it! Also do have to give a special mention to Sheryl, Callum our brilliant videographer, Natalie, Stacey and Charlotte, the wedding coordinator at Thornbury Castle. I think we somehow managed to pick the nicest people in the wedding industry! They all went out of their way to help and make our day go as well as it did, thanks everyone!
